There's A Storm A-Comin

I have a plague of small projects I am trying to get through. These can be such a killer. There are several large projects looming over me with uncertain dates-- because I cant know when or even if these project will go ahead, I keep sending out inquires to other publishers, which is only netting more vague promises of work in the near future-- these promises are gathering like thunderclouds on the horizon -- if they all come at once I will be deluged with more work then I can possible handle. But in the meantime I fill up my schedule with small projects to pay the rent and watch the horizon for the storm-- such is the life of the freelancer.

Installing Linux on a Dead Badger

This is one of the more strange illustration jobs I have had lately. The assignment was to draw a slightly cartoon like but not overly gory illustration of a dead badger, on its back with its legs up in the air.
The publisher wanted to give the book a faux-computer manual cover look, and needed an illustration for the cover that somewhat parodies the animals on the O'Reilly computer manuals:

this is the interior illustration I did for one of the stories in the book, "The Great Vudu Linux Teen Zombie Massacree". It was a fun little piece to do.

Here is a link the the authors web site Lucy A. Snyder

one more interior illustration

I probably should not be showing this, NDA and all, but since only about a dozen or so visitors pass through here a day it probably will not hurt-- right?

It's kind of a Gentle Ben story--only instead of a little boy and his bear in Alaska, It takes place around 100,000 thousand years ago and the boy is young woman in a loincloth and instead of a bear it is a gigantopithecus. To bad it is going be printed in grey scale

Black gate magazine

Here are a couple upcoming interior illustration for Black gate magazine . I love working with a narrative, especially illustrating for children's stories, short stories, novels or screenplays. coming out this spring---

I Closed down my main site.

My main site was embarrassingly out of date and it is long overdue for a overhaul. About a year ago I went fully digital and it has really changed the look and feel of my images and my site no longer reflects my current style.

I will be archiving much of the old site over here. My current portfolio is here and if your reading this you know where to find my blog. It will probably be a while before I get to updating my site so if you want to see my latest works this is probably the best place to come first.

Tintin vs Alien

This time its personal!

Four walls

For me art has been a largely solitary pursuit. I have found a nice little niche for myself that satisfies my natural anti-authoritism, reclusiveness and need for adulation all at once. I have not been getting rich freelancing, but I have been doing ok

But, this last New Years, I went to a party thrown by a very talented comic book artist Steve Lieber and his wife. Many of the guest were artist and illustrators and it was a very invigorating to talk shop and share art.

So this year I am going to try and break out of the studio a little bit, breach these walls-- to reach a larger audience, meet other artist, share the process of my work and thoughts and find new clients-- in short expand my reach.

This blog will be the heart of this out reach. So please enjoy, let me know what you think and stay in touch. I’m always eager to receive questions, comments, criticisms and of course commissions.
