Once Upon a Time II

I thought I needed to add a second illustration to the Rabbit image I did last winter, this time reversing the dominance of white with a dominance of black-- the element of the male character. Are the crows summoned? for what purpose? Is he kidnapping her or perhaps saving her? Lovers? enemies? Maybe if I do enough illustrations of these two the story of this untold fairy tail will emerge

i have been in such creative slump lately. So I have dusted off a few projects that I shelved because I was too busy trying to make a living instead of working on the things I love .... This is for The Last Dragon, a project I have started and abandoned many times over the years. I have redesigned the some of major characters in the story and am currently up dating the images already done for the story.

Fallen Angels

This is for the cover of "The Mistress of Nazarene" a novel about 3 escaped fallen angels-- actually it is the rejected cover for "The Mistress of Nazarene". All though the authors loved it, and it is the scene from the book that we agreed upon, the authors decided they wanted a sexed up cover instead, featuring the three fallen angle in low cut snake skin catsuits with whips (I do not have permission to show that one until the book is published).

I loved working on this image, I love doing huge complex scenes, epic battles with casts of thousands.angels, carnage, So much fun

Have a Happy Easter

I love this time of the year don't you? The sun's shining, the spring flowers are out, the days are longer. I love coloring the Easter eggs, catching a glimpse of the delight in a child’s eyes as they hunt for eggs, and of course there are the Tentacles...

A Call For Art Submissions

Domeka Parker is an amazing improvisational theater performer and teacher, she is a also friend. Domeka was diagnosed with Breast Cancer on Valentine's day. It is aggressive and has already spread to her lymph nodes. Her treatment will be equally aggressive including chemo, radiation and a mastectomy. We, her family, friends and students, are gathering our forces to assist in her fight. In that effort we are reaching out to artist that may want to donate their art to either of the two projects in the works to raise funds. First, we are planning an art show/improvisational benefit in April and are calling for art submissions. Domeka has a particular love for the warrior woman archetype, though pieces may be any art that is inspired by or inspires Courage. Deadlines for submission would be April 1st. The second effort is to have artist contribute designs for t-shirts and having a Zazzle page that would allow her friends from around the world to help Domeka out (plus get a cool shirt). There is certainly the possibility that a piece of art could be used for both the show and T-shirt if the Artist is willing to donate the image to the cause. If you are interested in submitting work for selection contact us at ArtforDomeka@gmail.com

Once Upon a Time

Is she saving him, using the life force of an enchanted apple? Is she using his life force to restore the apple and maybe bring spring to an endless winter?

.....and what is with all the bunnies?

In truth I dont know. I leave the story to your imaginations

The Arming of Cinderella

This is kind of a different image for me, I started messing around with this a little while ago, it was inspired by a conversation I had about what I call the Arming of Cinderella and Faux feminism (seem to be having lots of conversation about this stuff these days .women's roles and the stereotypes of women in science, entertainment and politics. These conversations seem to popping everywhere. perhaps as a counter reaction to the girl power brand feminism). Anyway, there was a trend in movies in the late 70s and early 80s where women were engendered with what were typically thought of as male traits. These women were independent, strong, and kicked ass when they had to. The best example of this would be Ripley from Alien. Through out the 70's horror had gone from the old studio monster and radioactive mutant giant insect, to the don't look now he's behind you ,female mutilation, sexually charged slasher movies. Alien turned that trend on it's head. Ripley is the strong female character who makes active judgments and survives what is trying to kill her. The male character's are largely passive - most die quickly, others wait for her command. It is Ripley who makes the plan to defeat the alien which works, while the 'powerless' male Captain makes bad judgments as his unsure plan fails. Her sexuality is derived from her strength rather then from her vulnerability. This trend was soon subverted, and while superficiality following the same blue print, these women were little more then card board cutouts, sure they could kick ass, but, they ultimately needed saving and often fell hopelessly under the spell of the male protagonist. Essentially returning us to the old Cinderella syndrome, only with guns....

The old west just gets weirder and weirder

The Steam Man of the West (by Joseph Lovece) adventures continue with inventor Frank Rude, Jr. and his motley crew in the weird weird Old West. With Frank's newest invention the Electric Horse at their side the preposterous escapades of the intrepid group continue rewrite history.

The idea is that each cover will aline with the last... There are a proposed 10 books in the series so this could get pretty big.

Tragedy to night

I did the comedy thing last night, so today we have tragedy. Tragedy of Shakespearean sort, you know the, "Murder most foul",“O villain, villain, smiling, damned villain!” kind of tragedy. Hamlet, Macbeth, Othello, Lear, the kind where everyone ends up dead.

Not an illustration of any particular play or story. The image grew from wanting to do a ghost figure then working backward as to who and where the ghost was...
